What Happens at the Fountains Stays at the Fountains?

100_5542The fountains at the University of Houston are a popular hangout for Coogs, but beyond the marvelous sculptures and soothing water there lies stories that tie numerous Coogs to UH eternally.  Students from across campus migrate for a quick reading session,  to contemplate their future, or to spend quality time with a loved one.

As Houston gets warmer, the fountains will enjoy the company of girls as they lay out near the fountains and take in the sun.

Although the weather was chilly, it did not stop a few Coogs from enjoying the relaxing environment. As they enjoyed she enjoyed her tunes, one student shared her experiences at the fountains.

“Being a freshman at UH, I haven’t had a lot of time to experience much stuff but I have been able to witness some bizarre situations. For example, one day I was walking by the fountain in front of the library and saw tons of bubbles in it; I heard that someone had filled it with baking soda. Another time, I was walking by the main fountain and saw a group of people with candles,” freshman Lana R. said.

Beyond the bizarre and unique, the fountains are home to numerous romantic encounters between fellow Cougars. “I proposed to my wife here at the fountains. Now every time I step foot on campus I make sure to take a pit stop at the fountains,” said Robert Gonzales, a UH alumni.

100_5539Although not many relationships have reached that level of commitment, the fountains have become a home to numerous couples. We found Coogs with various memories, from first encounters, and first kisses.  One Coog anonymously said that he has heard of people actually engaging in sexual relations at the fountains!

For some, the fountains are the best spot to relax on campus; but there are those who turn it into an adventure.  If you have heard or have experience something similar to this we would love to hear from you.  Leave us a comment.  And if you have yet to experience the fountains, make it a point to visit them.

I remember a while back after a long night of dance practice at UofH’s Campus Breakers United session I was walking a friend of mine back to her dorm room at the quads when we noticed the fountains were off and the water was drained out. Figuring this was one of the few times we’d get the opportunity we climbed on top of the metal fountain in the picture and laid out to watch the stars and chill.

The fountains will always be my favorite spot on campus. It was the place where my boyfriend told me that he loved me…at midnight too.
