Pre-business sophomore Arrmen Suny and Hispanic Studies junior Christopher Serrano discuss their opinion towards Apples' latest product title
From the social media world to the streets, people are talking about Apple’s latest creation, the iPad. The conversation goes further than the design of the product—it’s the name people are talking about.
Tweets and Facebook updates have been buzzing about the name of the iPad saying that it sound like a tampon. Many critics argue that the name sounds too much like a feminine hygiene product.
Overwhelming majorities of people interviewed at the University of Houston say they dislike the name and suggest it should be changed.
Before Apple Chairman and CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad, many speculated it would be called the iSlate—and some prefer this alternative.
After asking many people about the first thought that comes to their mind when they heard the name the iPad, many said it sounded like a high-tech tampon.
Prospective UH Chemical Engineering student, Brian Brown, says that the iPad name sounds “high-tech” but it does not have the must have appeal that he was hoping for.
Business Alumni, Ana Paula Gayon, says that Apple could have suggested a “more original” name. Gayon adds that it does not send a technological impression of the product.
Although the name has gotten the majority of the criticism, the other side is arguing about it being a giant iPhone. Apple followers were hoping that Jobs would add more specifications such as a built-in camera for video chatting on the go. Others wished the iPad would have calling features.
Apple’s first PDA, the Newton, was a flop. Consumers did not run to the stores and empty the shelves, but Apple is hoping that this will not be the case with the iPad.
Now the question is, is this the must have product? Apple is set to release the Wi-Fi version in February, and later on the 3G. If you recall, the iPhone sent Apple lovers flooding stores to buy the biggest thing Apple has ever created.
Most consumers are holding onto their wallets and waiting for the next iPad or the next best thing from Apple
