Saturday, September 26, the Cougars will take the field carrying with them the Associated Press’s No. 17 rank as they do battle with the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. Saturday night’s game will be the biggest in the past 20 years of the university and Robertson Stadium will be sold out to capacity. This past week has seen the Cougar staff change plans on how to manage the enormous amount of students aching to gain entrance. After the remaining guest tickets on Monday morning sold out, ticket holders put up for auction their own personal tickets, with the least expensive ticket being sold for $100.
Earlier today an email was sent out to the entire student body explaining how attendees of the game will enter. Students wanting to attend and sit in the free student section must first be at Robertson at 10:00 a.m. Staff will be on hand to scan the Cougar ID and distribute wristbands. Note of caution: Only 5,500 wristbands will be distributed. Students like Aliana Briai will be camping out at 5 a.m. just to be one of those lucky enough to gain entrance. Having a wristband doesn’t necessarily grant you access to the game. Students who have a wristband will then have to be at Gate 10 between 6:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m to enter. Any student who does not enter the stadium by 7:45 p.m. is not guaranteed admission. Promptness will be key. All over campus students are up in arms over the number of tickets being separated for guests. Aliana Briai recommended UH decrease the amount of guest tickets for sale and increase the student section at Roberson Stadium. If you are one of the unlucky hundreds who fail to get a wristband you can still gather round with your fellow cougars and watch from the parking lot on a 9’ by 16’ mobile LED screen, generously donated by Jim McIngvale of Galley Furniture and GoVision.
